C. A. COFFMAN Mattie McKenzie Coffman was born near Norris City, Illinois, July 27, 1884 and departed this life April 4, 1931, at the St. Elizabeth hospital, Granite City, Illinois at the age of 46 years, 8 months, and 7 days. She was with her husband who was employed at Granite City when she became ill, and where she finally passed away. Their home is at Havana, Kansas. She was the eldest child of Daniel and Lora McKenzie of Norris City, Illinois, where she grew up and where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Columbus A. Coffman of Jonesboro, Illinois, on October 23, 1901. To this union were born three children: Vertus of Elk Falls, Kansas, Dellena of the home address at Havana, Kansas and Ulas, who passed away May 9, 1928, at the age of 19 years. Mrs. Coffman was converted at the age of 14 and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Norris City. She died with a firm faith in her Lord and expressed her desire to go to be with the son gone on before. At the time of her death she was a member of the Methodist church of Howard, Kansas, having united by letter in 1921. She with her husband moved to Kansas and located at Longton in 1919, where they lived until 1921, when they moved to Howard. In 1927 they moved to Havana where they had their home at the time of her untimely death. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and two children, two brothers, Chas. and Jesse McKenzie and one sister, Miss Flora McKenzie, all of Norris City, Illinois, other relatives and a host of friends wherever she has lived. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Howard, Kansas, Wednesday, April 8, 1931, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. W. C. Chappell, pastor in charge. Interment in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
