Elizabeth Swim was born in Ohio on October 11, 1841. She removed to Illinois and thence to Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and on August 4, 1867 was married to Peter F. Walter in Ringgold county, Iowa. She lived in that county with her husband and children until May 1883, when they removed to Elk county, Kansas where she made her home until her death. She contracted malarial fever last summer and was a sufferer for several months, bearing her pain with Christian fortitude. Death came to her relief on Thanksgiving day, and she was ready and willing to go. The burial took place the following day at Grace Lawn cemetery, in Howard. Mrs. Walter became a member of the M. E. church in her youth and was an enthusiastic worker in the church and Sunday school whenever her health would permit. She was a dutiful and loving wife, an indulgent and affectionate mother to her five children. Her husband and children all survive her and deeply mourn her departure. Funeral services in her memory will be held some time in the near future. A host of friends sorrow in her death and the bereft husband and sons and daughters have the most heartfelt sympathy of all. Additional Comments: Elizabeth was a daughter of Jesse and Narcissus (Williams)Swim, of Adams County, Ohio.
