Home Journal Newspaper Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas Dec. 21, 1865 - Thursday A portable Saw Mill is much needed in this vicinity. The Saw Mill in town is in a state of thorough repair, with Mr. H.H. HOWE, a young man of modest merit. I hope Mr. DEIDRICK's mill on the Island will run regularly here after. In town last week were Capt. A.L. ANDERSON, Joseph GUY and Silas PIERSOL of Delaware Co. Ohio. They purchased land in Sept. and have now come to stay. Capt. ANDERSON will bring with him a pair of beautiful 3 year old full blooded mares. Tuesday, we had a visit from Capt. W.W.P. McCOUNEL, merchant of Neosho Falls. who is on his wedding tour. Mr. Joseph CARPENTER sold the house occupied by Mr. WILKERSON to Daniel GRANT Esq., lately from Wisconsin. Messrs W.T. and T. ELLISON have purchased lots and will open a Copper shop. Mr. Reuben SMITH has sold his dwelling to Mr. LEWIS CASS of Sangamon Co. Illinois. Mr. SMITH will erect another dwelling. Mr. Anderson MASON's only child was accidently scalded to death on Saturday last. List of Petit Jurors drawn for the adjourned Oct. 1864 term. Ottawa twp: Edmund LEISTER, Silas H. TAYLOR, from Wisconsin, had all personal effects destroyed by a prairie fire and one daughter so badly burned, she died within hours. Married: On Monday, Dec. 18th at Neosho Falls, Mr. W.W.P. McCONNEL to Miss Hattie N. CLARK, by Rev. Mr. JONES of Woodson Co. Kansas. Married: On Thursday evening, Dec 14, at the residence of J. SUMSTINE Esq., in Peoria City, Mr. George W. TAYLOR to Miss Annie TURNER. All of Franklin Co. Kansas. Married: On Dec. 7th, in Baldwin City at the residence of the bride, William H. SCHOFIELD, Esq., agent of Baker University married Mrs. Louisa S. BEARDSLY of Baldwin City, recently of Keesville, New York. They were married by Rev. G.S. DEARBORN and assisted by President F.W. LOCK. Death: On Saturday, Dec. 16th, at the residence of John M. JONES; Grant MASON, the only child of Anderson and Marian MASON died. Grant was 2 years and 8 days. Death: Deacon Jacob WOOLF died at his residence near Ottawa on Dec. 14th, at the age of 35 years. The deceased was born in Ohio and came to Kansas with his tribe, the Ottawa Indians, when quite young. Information Wanted: W.P. CALDWELL, an employee of the B.O.D. Co., who was on the line at the time of the recent Indian outbreak, has in his possession money belonging to Mr. VANVICTON, supposed to live near Oswego, New York and Aaron GODDARD, both of whom was killed by the Indians.
