Home Journal Newspaper - Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Dec. 28, 1865 - Thursday The Editor of this paper, Rev. I.S. KALLOCK arrived home last week from a trip to North Eastern counties of the State. Mr. T.E. LAMB has purchased one third interest in the saw mill at this place. Mr. H. NOSS, lately from Pennsylvania, has purchased land in this vicinity. Mr. J.V. CLEMENT, from Ohio is building a fine dwelling west of Major ELDER. Mr. CLEMENT is famous for the manufacture of syrup and sugar from sorghum. Mr. HECK, a son of the host of the Union House arrived home yesterday from two years service in the war. John GARRETT, Esq., of Pike Co. Illinois, who purchased a dwelling of Mr. J. WALRUFF, started from his home in Illinois with his team of horses more than a month ago. Time has elapsed without any tidings from him. His only son is in search of him. J.H. WHETSTONE and Co. are doing a large business in selling farms, lots and houses. Col. W.C. JONES, who commanded an Iowa Regiment has bought the Joseph KING donated land in West Ottawa. Mr. GLIDDEN, who served in the same regiment is with him. Messrs. EGGLESTON and BUNTING are preparing to erect a business house and fill it with goods early in the spring. Mr. EGGLESTON was an officer in a Wisconsin Regiment during the war. Mr. W. NIX, from near Alton, Illinois, has bought land south east of the University farm, as have his old neighbor, Henry ARNSPIGER. Also, other old neighbors are J.T. HAUSKINS, James HILL and others. Hon. D.M. VALENTINE, Judge of this District arrived home from Lawrence, Kansas. Preparatory School of Ottawa University has been under the charge of Miss Lucy HATCH, assisted by Mrs. R. MAYHEW and Miss Fanny THOMAS. Married: At Lawrence, on Thursday, 21 Dec 1865, David HENSON to Ella MYERS, daughter of Mr. Jacob MYERS, all of Ottawa. Died: On Sunday, 24 Dec., George Bird MONDAY died. He, the only child of Madison B. and Isabella MONDAY, aged 5 months and 2 days. Died: At Ottawa, on Tuesday, 16 Dec 1865, Frank POOLER, an Ottawa half-breed, aged 23 years. He served three years in the Army.
