Home Journal Newspaper - Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Jan. 4, 1866 - Thursday Sheriff elect JENNESS and his partner, Capt. S.S. WILLIAMS, have opened a Livery and Feed stable. J.A. TILTON has brought many persons to Ottawa and he now advertises to feed their horses and furnish hack hire. ================ Jan. 11, 1866 - Thursday Justice Court: A.H. DOW, J.P. Phoebe MESSENGER vs. John BECHTELL. Action to recover two cows claimed as the property of Plaintiff. Jury returned the verdict in favor of Plaintiff. Justice Court: State of Kansas vs. York PATTERSON. The defendant who occupies a log cabin in the vicinity of the Island, pleaded guilty to the charge of selling liquor without a license. It being the first offense, the court fined him $5 and court costs. John GARRETT, who has been missing, was killed in Cass Co. Missouri on his way to Ottawa. Word was received by telegraph. Mr. GARRETT's son, B.F. GARRETT, is in search for him. The School Board has opened a school for black children under the charge of Miss SCOTT. Mr. Moses FLOY has purchased the business of J. & E. FLOY. Moses is a brother of Jacob. Capt. M.F. GILLPATRICK, lately of the 83rd Regiment, U.S. Infantry, has recently moved into our village. George S. HOLT is a brother-in-law of Capt. GILLPATRICK. Messrs. CLARK and FLESHER are putting up at Dutch Henry's Crossing, Pottawatomie, a saw, flour and grist mill. Married: On Sunday, 7 Jan 1866, at the residence of the bride's father, by Rev. W.B. WALKER; Mr. William C. BRIANT of Stanton, Miami Co. Kansas to Miss Medora BURNEY. Medora is a daughter of Mr. BURNEY, of Peoria twp., Franklin Co. Married: On Saturday, 30 Dec 1866, by T.C. HUGHES, Esq.; at the residence of the bride's father, John H. PERKINS, Esq. to Miss Lydia GLIDDEN, a daughter of Mr. GLIDDEN. All of Minneola. Died: In Lawrence, at her residence on Tennessee Street, on Tuesday morning, 9 Jan 1866, Mrs. Rebecca D. HUTCHINSON, age 40 years. She died after a long and painful illness. Farm for sale. See V.R.
