Home Journal Newspaper - Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Oct 3, 1867 - Mrs. CUTLER of Rantoul met with the appreciation she so richly deserves at the State Fair. Her peach-butter is unbeatable. Mr. TRACY, Mr. TRUE received premiums for their stock at the Fair. Mr. ASHBY was there with his splendid stallion and Dan SMITH with his big colt. Mr. ZIMMERMAN is near completion of the hotel. Prairie fire on Tuesday destroyed the entire fence on the south and west sides of the EGGLESTON place on Ohio City road. Mr. JENNESS rallied a large force and saved EGGLESTON's crops. P.P. ELDER and W.L. McLAUGHLIN are offering $25.00 reward for the detection of the party that shot two yearling colts belonging to them. Judge D.M. HOFFMAN opened his law office in Ottawa. District Court adjourned last Sat. 36 cases. among the most important were those of State of Kansas vs. Charles JONES, Grand Larceny. Charles JONES plead guilty and owning to the good behavior of the prisoner while in jail the past two months, the Judge remitted his sentence from one year to 10 months in the Penitentiary. State of Kansas vs. Lewis WEATHERWAX, Grand Larceny. Defendant acquitted. State of Kansas vs. Cyras HATCH, Assault with intent to commit rape. Found guilty and sentenced to 1 year in the Penitentiary. State of Kansas vs. Elias WHITE, Murder in first degree. Defendant plead not guilty.
