Home Journal Newspaper - Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Aug. 2, 1866 - Thursday Dissolution of Co-Partnership between H.A. COE & J.M. RICKSECKER by mutual consent. Mr. RICKSECKER is retiring. U.S. Taxes are now due, by the 10th day, 1866. If not paid, you will be liable of penalty of 10 percent. $15.00 Reward for the return of a light bay mare, 14 1/2 hands high, 5 years old, blind in right eye, star on forehead and some saddle marks. Stolen 26 July 1866. See Frank RANSOM. - Mrs. WAYNICK, a widow lady, residing on Walnut Street, was burglariously entered Sunday evening last through a back window and $734.00 of her hard earned money was taken. Died: In Ottawa, 1 Aug 1866, Charles JENNESS, infant son of Richard and Lovina; age 6 months and 15 days. Died of inflammation of the brain. Public Notice: Ezekiel D. HALL, plaintiff vs. Montcalm J. STIMSON of parts unknown, will take notice the Ezekiel D. HALL of Ottawa, Franklin Co. KS did on the 21st day of June file his petition against Montcalm J. STIMSON, defendant, was indebted to plaintiff in the sum of $74.53 for good, wares, merchandise and chattels by plaintiff sold and delivered to defendant. Mr. HALL obtained an order of attachment upon the real estate property of Mr. STIMSON. Public Notice: Asa S. LATHROP vs. Montcalm J. STIMSON. Asa also filed a petition against Mr. STIMSON in the sum of $74 .50 for certain meat, drinks, attendance and other necessaries usually included under the name of board. Order of attachment as above. ========================================================================= Aug. 9, 1866 - Thursday Died: Albert Van THOMAS died by drowning. He was bathing near the mill and was found in about 2 feet of water. Albert was a lad of about 11 yrs. old. Sympathy to the afflicted parents. Dr. DEFORD has returned from the East. Holt has working for him, Mr. Gillpatrick, one of the best looking and best behaved young men in town, or by Levi, a boy of whom he is proud of and whom we all have proud expectations. One of the originals of this town is Dr. Dow. Original settler, and original sinner and an original character, generally. Dr. Dow is enlarging, repairing and generally improving his house. He is a genius. The grasshoppers still continue and fears are expressed of destruction of the wheat crop. Rev. A. Parson , Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will organize a Sabbath School next Sunday.
