The Madison News, March 3, 1887
Virgil Items. -- George W. Gillispie, a former resident of Lane Township, died 
last week in Stafford County, Kansas.  His death is a surprise to his many 
friends here.  He was the owner of two improved farms out there, and went to 
look after his interests therein.

Additional Comments:
George W. Gillispie and his family moved to Greenwood County sometime between 
1871 and 1875 from Keokuk County, Iowa.  The family farmed around the the 
Quincy-Virgil area until the time of his death.  "G.W." was about 58 years old 
when he died.
