John STOUT of Washington township, was in the city with a load of wood yesterday and with it he brought a curiousity in the shape of the forks of a black jack oak tree in which was imbedded six Indian arrows to the depth of twelve inches. The flint stone heads of the arrows had long since been decayed leaving nothing but black rotten streaks in the oak. The arrows were bunched and no doubt set up in the forks of that tree, arrow points downward, when it was quite young, years and years ago by some brave redskin who never returned for them. The tree grew and grew imbedding the arrows as it grew. It was a rare curiosity indeed. The Wave reporter advised Mr. Stout to send the two pieces of wood showing the arrows to the historical association and he promised to do so in the spring, but John will have to take it to Hennessey to show to his friends there.--Enid Wave. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/harper/newspapers/arrowsim109gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
