More than a little excitement was caused in Attica this week on account of a smallpox scare. Oscar NEAL, who has been visiting at the home of relatives northwest of town, took the train from here Wednesday for his home at Blackwell, Oklahoma. He had been sick the Cuban chickenpox and a great many who were uninformed as to the nature of the disease came to the conclusion that he had the small pox. The news soon spread in the crowd at the depot and of course the people began to get afraid to go near him. As soon as the train arrived Mr. Neal and his wife and baby got aboard, but before it started someone told Conductor Lucley that "there was a man on the train that looked like he had the smallpox." The conductor at once consulted two physicians who were standing on the platform, and they told thim that it was nothing more than a case of the Cuban chicken pox. This disease is spread nearly all over the United States, and while it is not dangerous it is not at all pleasant. The ! Oklahoma Territorial Board of Health met in Blackweell this week and decided, after an investigation of the many cases at the place, that the danger connected with having such a harmless disease would not justify a quarantine.--Attica Independent. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/harper/newspapers/smallpox110gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
