John Aclin Allen.
John Aclin ALLEN, the subject of this notic was born January 1, 1839 in
Philadelphia, Pa. Died May 19, 1919. Age 80 years, 4 months and 19 days.
Mr. Allen came to Kansas in 1884. He and his son engaged in business here in
1906. He continued in business until the recent illness that caused his death.
Mrs. Allen passed away nine years ago. He was the father of two children, J.L.
Allen of this place and Mrs. Chas. KELLY of Arizona.
Funeral services were held at the Church on May 21, 1919 at 2 p.m. after which
interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The G.A.R. Post had charge of
burial and the body was interred with all of the honors of the Fraternity.
Religiously, he was a Cumberland Presbyterian and as no organization of that
kind was in this community he never identified himself with any other body.
He was an old soldier and a member of the G.A.R. post of Harper. He served his
country with honor and shows an honorable discharge from service. One by one the
boys who wore blue are passing away as aged men. Their step in the main is not
so sprightly as it once was but they have done their part at the country's call.
It is to their honorl that the young men of this generation showed that they are
the same kind of metal when the country's danger and honor were at the stake.
The young men in the last two years have upheld the honor, glory and reputation
of this great country, just as these old boys did from 1861 to 1865. It is a
safe prophecy that this nations Honor will be upheld for coming generations.
