Three-Year-Old Child Drowned.

Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leaford BABCOCK of Danville Drowned in Water Tank
Wednesday--Funeral Today.

Losing her balance while supposedly watching fish in a cement watering tank,
cost the life of little Joyce Babcock, the three-year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Leaford BABCOCK, at their farm home northeast of Danville, Wednesday
evening about five o'clock p.m. Mrs. Babcock had been entertaining company and
little Joyce was thought to have been playing in the house. She had been out of
the mother's presence for only a few minutes when the company prepared to leave.
When the child failed to answer to her mother's call, Mrs. Babcock immediately
thought of the watering tank and its danger. She, with the company hurried to
the tank, only to find the lifeless body of the baby floating upon the surface
of the water. Drs. WESTFALL and FLOWERS of Harper were summoned but their
efforts to restore her life were futile.

Mr. Babcock had placed some small fish in the tank the morning of the tragedy
and it was supposed that the child had wandered to the tank to watch them.
Although there was only about twelve inches of water in the tank, it was thought
by the physicians that by falling into the tank the child was stunned and unable
to rescue herself.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Harper this afternoon,
Thursday at 2:00 p.m. on West Main street. Rev. Moore of Wichita will conduct
the services. Interment will be made in the Trenton cemetery in Kingman county.
