Tuesday morning at 11:15 o'clock after an illness of eleven weeks, Mrs. Julia GALLAGHER passed away at the age of 82 years, and 28 days. In August, 1918, Mrs. Gallagher broke up her home at Harper, Kansas, where she owned a farm and was beloved by the entire community, and came to Glenwood Springs to spend her remaing days at the home of Postmaster H.W. SMITH. Mrs. Smith being her only daughter. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Gallagher leaves two sons, John F., at Bremerton, Wash. and Edward at Anthony, Kans., and a grandson, Edward Gallagher, jr., who visited Mrs. Smith here during the summer of 1917 and made many friends in Glenwood. Mrs. Gallagher was born in Ireland and came to America with her parents when a mere child. She grew up in Saint Louis. Funeral services, conducted by Father J.P. Carriigan, will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic church Saturday at 2:30 p.m. after which Mrs. Smith and her brother who is expected to arrive Friday night from Bremerton, Wash., will accompany the remains to Saint Louis where they will be laid to rest beside those of her parents in Calvary cemetery. In accordance with the expressed wish of Mrs. Gallagher, the funeral will be from St. Patrick's church in St. Louis, which she attended during girlhood and where she was married. It is expected that her son and grandson from Kansas will be present. Mrs. Gallagher's long life was spent in usefulness and loving deeds. During the last days of her life she knit forty-three pairs of socks for the boys in the service. She leaves many friends throughout the states where she has lived by whom she will always be held in loving remembrance. The bereaved relatives expecially the townspeople, Postmaster and Mrs. Smith, have the sympathy of the entire community--Avalanche-Echo (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) Mrs. Gallagher will be well remembered in Harper and community, having lived in Banner township for a number of years.
