Miss Isabelle HAZLETT was born in Butler, Pa., October 31, 1816. Died at the home of her niece, Mrs. D.H. WAGNER of this city, May 13, 1919. Age 102 years, 6 months and 13 days. She came to Kansas with her niece in 1878 and had never been outside of the county since coming here. She and her brother lived together years ago, but for many years she had made her home with Mr. Wagner. She remembered the Mexican war and many other things of historical importance. She has lived through and witnessed many of the great changes that have taken place in the history of the American people. It seems remarkable that she was born so long ago, that it was under the administration of President Madison, the Fourth President of the United States. In the year o fher birth, congress created the Second United States Bank. She was born just four years before the Fourth Census of the United States was taken which was 1820. The Census of that year showed the entire population of the coutnry to 9,638,191. New York and Chicago are almost as large as the entire United States at that time. Miss Hazlett united with the Evangelistic Lutheran church when 14 years of age. She held to that faith as long as she lived. This is a remarkable record in itself that for a period of time much beyond the ordinary life of man, she has been identified as a Christian, or for a period of 88 years. The funeral services were conducted at the home of D.H. Wagner, May 15 by W.E. Kelly, minister of the Christian church, after which the body was buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/harper/obits/h/hazlett1118gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
