SHEARER was born December 4, 1881; enlisted in the United States service at the age of 17 years, and became a member of Co. E., 12th U.S. Infantry and sailed for the Philippines under the old flag of liberty which so many lives have been given to maintain. He died Decemeber 8, 1899, away from home and native land; but our government placed him in a metallic coffen and returned him to his native land and his father's home in Garfield county, Oklahoma, where I ahd the honor of preaching the funeral sermon, March 23, 1900, form the text, "I will ransom them from the power of the grave," Hosea 13:14, to a large and attentive congregation. The remains were laid to rest in the Carrier cemetery. The many friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to those who mourn their loss. May the Lord comfort and sustain the entire family in their affliction. P.
