Merrel SHEARER, a young lad who used to reside with his parents here in Anthony,
died in the Manila hospital on the Island of Luzon on the 8th of December. Young
Merrell enlisted with the regulars at Fort Riley, this state, last summer and
was sent to Manila with his regiment last September.

(Note: Merrel and Merrell typed as printed in newspaper.)
