He moved from Indiana to Illinois with his parents in the year 1856. In the fall of 1876 the family came to Kansas, the first living near Wichita. In 1879 they moved to Harper county and he took a claim near Danville, where he lived until the time of his death, having lived on the same farm for about fifty years. On February 25, 1897 he was united in marriage to Hattie RUSSELL who preceded him in death in 1911.
