David SHIPPEN was born in Wayne county, Ind., March 21, 1844 and passed away at
his home near Danville, Nov. 8, 1928 at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 18 days.

He moved from Indiana to Illinois with his parents in the year 1856. In the fall
of 1876 the family came to Kansas, the first living near Wichita. In 1879 they
moved to Harper county and he took a claim near Danville, where he lived until
the time of his death, having lived on the same farm for about fifty years.
On February 25, 1897 he was united in marriage to Hattie RUSSELL who preceded
him in death in 1911. To this union three children were born, all of whom
survive him: Elizabeth and William at home, Margaret CRAWFORD of Carmen, Okla.,
and Jessie WILSON of Wichita, a stepdaughter; a sister, Mrs. Martha FRIDAY of
Danville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a large number of other
relatives and a host of friends.
