The Weekly Republican (Newton, KS) Thur Aug 7, 1879 pg 2 The Baptist church at Newton, was organized by its present pastor, Rev. A. S. Merrifield, in Jan. 1878, with a membership of 41. During the same year they erected their church building. They have a pleasant and prosperous S. School, and their present membership numbers 105. They also have an organization known as Ebenezer church south-east of Walton, of which Rev. Warehouse is pastor. Mr. Warehouse also has charge of a church north-west of Newton. At Burrton the church is under the pastoral care of Rev. Post. South of Burrton is another organization at which Rev. D. P. Rowe is pastor.
