Banks Killed In Crash West of Burrton Harvey County's second fatal highway accident within 24 hours Monday night took the life of Arthur G. Banks, 42-year-old Burrton oil field worker. Banks was killed instantly shorly after 8 o'clock as he drove his automobile in front of a gasoline transport truck at the curve on highway 50S, west of Burrton. The truck was owned and driven by L. T. Shaffer of Great Bend. Investigators from the sheriff's office and state highway patrolmen said Banks apparently had planned to continue west on the dirt road off the slab and misjudged the closeness of the transport as it approached him from the north on the curve. The two vehicles collided virtually head on and Banks' car was practically demolished, Shaffer was unhurt. Banks' body was removed to the McFall mortuary at Burrton. His was the fifth fatality on county highways this year.
