               BRUTALITY UNEQUALED
An Inhuman Fiend in Harvey County Outrages a Thirteen Year
                    Old Child.
    A special dispatch to the Topeka Commonwealth, of a recent
date, is as follows:
  F. A. Norton, formerly county superintendent of Harvey
county, and lately proprietor of a second hand store at 
this place, has been arrested, charged with rape upon the
person of Tamer Alleson, a little girl aged thirteen years,
the daughter and only chid of a widown with whom he was 
boarding. He took her out in a buggy, presumably for a short
ride in the country, where he was going to see some one.
When in the sand hills a few miles north of town, the girl
says he took her from the buggy, outraged her person, and
then drove to McPherson, where he kept her over night and
further required her to submit to him. He has a wife and
several children living in Newton. Public feeling is generally
excited against him, many declaring that he shall be lynched.
He is a man aged thirty-five or forty years, and very
inteligent, which makes the case doubly heinous.
   LATER.-- Prof. Norton, the man charged with the seduction
of Mrs. Alleson's little girl, was taken out of town by 
private conveyance this afternoon, and taken to Newton
jail. Before getting him out of town a large infuriated
mob had gathered and treated him to a coat of tar.
