Hall, 83, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Friendly Acres Retirement Community in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. He was born March 11, 1919, to Chester and Hazel (Swank) Hall in Harvey County. They preceded him in death. He married Ruth Zook June 30, 1946, in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. She preceded him in death April 5, 1978. He was a member of Golden Plains Free Methodist Church in rural Newton since the 1950's, serving on the church board. He was a dairy and wheat farmer for many years in Northwest Harvey County. He was a lifelong Newton resident and was a 1936 graduate of Newton High School. He was also a member of the local school board and Farm Bureau. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He served in India for three years and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was awarded military ribbons and the good conduct metal. He had earned the rank of sergeant when he was discharged. Survivors include: three sons, Dan Hall of Tyler, Texas, Jack Hall of North Newton and Joe Hall of Newton; a brother, Harold "Bud" Hall of Newton; a sister, Gladys Rutchman of Englewood, Colorado; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by: a brother, Donald Hall; and a sister Mary Hall. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Golden Plains Free Methodist Church with Pastors Earl Evans and Charles Kaufman officiating. Private burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Zimmerdale, Harvey County, Kansas. Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas and the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.
