Mrs. Sarah Ann ASHTON was born Jan. 27, 1867, at Pleasant Mills, Ind., and died at her home, Ontario, Kan., Nov. 2, 1922, aged 55 years, nine months, five days. Mrs. Ashton was married to Morris Ashton, May 3, 1891. To this union were born three children, Harry Ashton, and Mrs. Maud SCOTT, of Topeka, Kan., and Morris, Jr., at home with his parents, all of whom with their father survive to mourn the loss of a loving companion and a faithful mother. Mrs. Ashton was converted and united with the Methodist church about the age of fourteen, to which church and religion she was faithful unto death. The illness of Mrs. Ashton has continued since last June. She has been a constant sufferer but has never complained. Those who waited at her bedside have seen the exemplification of the most beautiful sort of patience and submission. She never complained but often expressed a wish to stay with her family. As she went down into the valley where the hopes of life sink, and as she stepped into the shadow of death, where the last battle of her soul was fought she said, "I am not afraid." Like David, she felt the power of the everlasting keeping grace of Jesus Christ. We thoroughly believe that her soul is at home with God. About two hours before she went away she called her entire family to her bedside, one by one, and bid them good by and had them say with her "God's will be done." Servant of God, well done, Thy glorious warfare's past, The battle's fought, the race is run, And thou art crowned at last. Beside the immediate family, Mrs. Ashton leaves to mourn her loss an aged mother, three sisters, and three grandchildren, besides a host of friends. A short service was held at the home. The funeral service was conducted in the Holton M.E. church by the Rev. R.O. Gilpin, assisted by the Rev. M.G. Hamm. A large crowd was in attendance. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was made in the Holton cemetery. The community extends a hand of love and sympathy to the bereaved family. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/jackson/obits/a/ashton975gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
