Bair.
Margaret M. LATTA was born on April 12, 1844, in Pleasant Unity, Westmoreland
county, Pennsylvania, and died at her home in Holton, Friday morning, November
3, 1922, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 22 days.
She received her education in the public schools of Westmoreland, afte which she
taught school in her home county for three years. She was married to Henry B.
BAIR on October 4, 1870. To this union nine children were born, T.L. Bair of
Minneola, Kan., Edwin Bair who died on March 19, 1892, John L. Bair and Harry
Bair both of Holton, Kan., R.D. Bair of Lamar, Colo., Mrs. C.A. REMY of Kansas
City, Mo., Sadie L. Bair and Mrs. Grace JOHNSTON, both of Holton, and Mary L.
Bair wo died at Ft. Riley, October 25, 1918.
In 1879, she with her husband left Pennsylvania and came to Kansas and settled
on a farm near Holton which was their home until they moved to town a few years
ago.
When she was only a young girl she confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and
united with the Presbyterian church in her home town in Pennsylvania, later
transferring her membership to the Holton Presbyterian church. She was a true
Christian, always attending the services of the church until sickness in her
home kept her closely confined to her home. She was of a quiet disposition,
keeping her trouble largely to herself. During the last few years she took great
comfort in God's WOrd, reading the Bible through from beginninig to end not less
than three times.
Besides raising her own children, she was also a true mother to four
step-children, all of whom are living except one; they are Mrs. E.C. FOWLER of
Topeka, Miss Jessie Bair also of Topeka, Mr. S.M. Bair of Soldier, and George B.
Bair, who died 11 years ago.
Her husband, Henry Bair preceded her to the other land on the ninth day of
August last.
Besides the children and step-children she leaves to mourn her departure a large
number of grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a host of other
relatives and friends.
We mourn but "We mourn not as those who have no hope."
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Monday morning at 10:30,
conducted by Rev. F.E. Munneke. Music was furnished by Miss Ellen LOWELL, Mrs.
Herbert MOYER, B.E. CANFIELD, and W.J. GLENN. The pallbearers were George ARMEL,
L.E. ARMEL, James FISHER, S.H. STAUFFER, B.T. WIBLE, Robert FERNKOPF. Burial in
Holton cemetery.
