Rudolph BOETTCHER as born in Vreitzen, Prussia, May 6, 1837. In 1853, at the age of 17, he immigrated to American stopping first in New York and later in Iowa. Soon he caught the spirit that tended westward and about 1856 came to Kansas and settled near Holton. Since that time he has lived in and near Holton uninterruptedly until the time of his decease which occurred December 17. Coming to this locality at the time he did, he found the country in a raw and undeveloped condition, hence shared the privations and hardships of those pioneer days. Blessed with unusual physical vitality, he gave himself to the work of building and development and had no small share in bringing this community to its present state. In 1869 he was joined in wedlock with Engel WEHMEIER, who survives him. To them six children were born, one of whom preceded the father in death. The surviving children are: Mrs. Emma KAUL, Mrs. Ida HOCHULI, Mrs. Hulda KNOUFT, Ernest and Otte Boettcher, all of Holton. There are 29 grandchildren. Also two brothers remain. Thirty-six years ago he united with the church and continued in its membership until the end. Eight years ago he suffered a break in his health which greatly enfeebled him and doubtless ws an indirect cause leading to his death. On Wednesday night he suffered a stroke and declined steadily until late Sunday afternoon when he quietly passed away. His age was 85 years, 7 months and 11 days. The service in charge of pastor Rev. G.F. Barthel, was held Tuesday afternoon at the Evangelical church. Music was furnished by a quartette consisting of Mrs. Ross ABBUEHL, Mrs. M.F. GABEL, Messrs. Henry ABBUEHL and Albert JACOBS. The remains were deposited in the Holton cemetery. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/jackson/obits/b/boettche1152gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
