Clare S., daughter of John and Elizabeth SIMPKINS, was born in Illinois, February 3, 1858. When but a girl with her parents came to Kansas, finally locating in Clay Center where on November 3, 1885, she was married to Fred SONTAG. In January of the following year they moved to Holton where they have mutally shared the joys and burdens of a quiet and a devoted life. Mrs. Sontag was of a retiring disposition, a good neighbor, a true woman and a faithful helpmate. About two months ago she took to her bed and gradually grew worse until the end came on September 7, reaching the age of 64 years, 6 months, 15 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and a number of relatives and friends. "O field lie still and rest, The plowman knoweth best. O heart, be still and know Peace is pain's afterglow" Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the undertaking parlors conducted by Rev. F.A. MUNNEKE. Music was furnished by a quartet composted of Miss Ellen LOWELL, Mrs. J.D. BENDER, W.J. GLENN, Zara BROWN.
