Sarah Jane, daughter of David and Margaret BOWDLE, was born Feb. 25, 1851, near Roundhead, Harden county, Ohio. She grew to womanhood in that place and in 1870 was married to Euclid STEPHENSON and began life's journey together in the home neighborhood. Here were born four children: Frank, Earnest, Bertha, now, Mrs. H.H. MAXEY of Banner, Okla., and Fred of Soldier, Kan. They came to Kansas in 1887 and located in the Olive Hill neighborhood where they have since resided. Two children were born here, Edna, Now Mrs. Fred OWEN of Cherryvale, Kan., and Ralph, now of Ponca City, Okla. She united with the M.E. church at the age of sixteen and has ever been a faithful and efficient worker. Next to her home, the church was her chief joy in life. She departed this life on October 3, 1922, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, and 9 days, beloved by all and mourned by those who knew her best. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Lillian NEAL of Alger, Ohio, her devoted husband, all of her six children, together with twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to bless her sweet memory and call her blessed. The funeral was conducted at the Olive Hill church by Rev. M.G. HAMM and the body laid to rest in the beautiful plot across the road. True sorrow was expressed by all who knew her. Beautiful flowers and music were in eveidence and breathed the sentiments of the lartge congregations who paid their loving respects to a beloved one gone from among them.
