If you cannot kill off all the evil, destroy as much of it as you can. Which side of the temperance question are you on, for the illegal sale of liquor or against it? If you have any doubt, you can easily know by the company you keep. Every man is responsible for his influence in the temperance movement whether that influence goes to aid the great evil of intemperance or to check it. If the drainseller consults you as a friend you know where you belong. If you in doubt as to which side of any particular effort for the suppression of the evils of temperance is the right one, notice which side the dramsellers are on and take the other. Men do not work against their own interest if they know it. The day will come when the advocates of temperance will be regarded with as much detestation as the slaveholder and slavedriver are now regarded; and the aiders and abettors of the evil will be despised as are the doughfaces who pandered to slavery. The saloonists say they can prove that the druggists sell liquor illegally. Well, why don't they do it? If they know of a crime and conceal it, they are guilty of the crime. Prosecute the druggists like men or hold your peace. Let the guilty be punished whether druggists or a saloonist; any one and every one who is guilty.
