On last Saturday evening, about nine o'clock, two strangers forced an entrance into the residence of Eli EVANS home at Valley Falls, while the Van Amburg show was giving its entertainment. They threw a rock through a window, doubtless to ascertain if any one was in the house. They took a quantity of clothing and two boxes or hand trunks in which Eli kept the papers of the house he is traveling for. Mr. Evans returned home a short time after the thieves had left and finding things as they were, armed himself with a breach-loading gun, charged and ready to use, and started out in quest of the theives. The guards around the show tent, put him on the track, and he found them near the railroad depot, under the gangway for conveying stock from the cars to the yard. On accosting them they started to run, but he halted them, and a wholesome fear of the gun probably acted as a persuader to stop. All the stolen goods were recovered. It being cold one of them had donned Mr. Evan's over! coat, to keep comfortable. On Monday the culprits were arraigned before Justice Clark, and pleading guilty were brought here and lodged in jail. They gave ficitious names. Two other parties were arrested at the Falls for another burlargy, but were discharged, there being no proof against them.
