The Oskaloosa Independent, Jefferson County, Saturday, August 24, 1878 August 24, 1878
A week or two ago, a young man named Albert TEVERLY was quarrying rock on the
Joseph BODDE farm, about six miles south-east of Winchester, and upon removing a
large flat stone he discovered a human skeleton. The flesh has all disappeared,
though several articles of clothing were still preserved. The boots were entire,
also a part of the vest. The skeleton is supposed to be that of a young man who
was passing through here in 1856, and thougth to have been murdered for his
money. The front teeth were filled with gold, as were also those of the young man.
