Barnard Dies From Heart Disease Sudden Attack Comes On Early Thursday A.M. In Good Health Wednesday With No Indications of Illness--Was Co. Supt. of Schools. Ira F. BARNARD, county superintendent of schools, died suddenly early Thursday morning. His death was the result of heart disease. Wednesday night Mr. Barnard retired at his farm home two and a half miles northwest of Oskaloosa, in the best of health. He awoke about 3 o'clock complaining of pains in his chest and arms. Upon physician's advice he took medicine and then a hot bath and a mustard plaster, then decided to go back to bed. He had not been in bed five minutes until his death occurred, shortly after 6 o'clock. Mr. Barnard was 56 years old, and had been in the public school profession for over 30 years. In 1928 he was elected county superintendent of schools, and proved a popular official, his long experience helping him in his duties. He is survived by his widow and six children, three sons, and three daughters, Mrs. Clyde ERHEART, of Easton, Mrs. Lloyd ANGEL, and Ruth Barnard, of Oskaloosa, Orville Barnard of Atchison, Bernard Barnard, of Attwood, Kansas, and Ernest Barnard, of Oskaloosa. Mr. Barnard's sudden passing was a great shock to his family and his many friends all over the county. The death of Ira F. Barnard, county superintendent of schools, creates a vacancy in county office, he having served but one year and a half of his first term. To fill out the term, the board of county commissioners must appoint some one qualified for the office. Mr. Barnard was a candidate for re-election on the Republican ticket, and it is thought the central committee can fill his place after the primary. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/jefferson/obits/b/barnard473gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
