It seems that the trainmen were making a running switch, and the engine with part of the cars ran past him on one track, when he stepped on the other track and walked ahead, while the rear end of the train came rushing along on that track, and struck him in the back, passed over the right leg nearly severing it from the body, severed the right arm and crossed the body near the pit of the stomach, mangling the remains in a horrible manner. He was as well taken care of as was possible, under the circumstances. He was brought to Perry and buried. His folks were all in Iowa on a visit at the time of his death.
