With her mother she then moved to Kansas City where they lived unti three years ago this spring at which time they came to Oskaloosa. Here she became acquainted with Dr. A. THOMSON to whom she was married May 10, 1894, and spent a year of that perfect happiness known only to thoroughly congenial natures. She united with the Presbyterian church in Perry when she was thirteen years of age and has always led a consistent and consciencious Christian life, whose purity of thought will ever prove a beacon light to lead her friends to higher and nobler lives. She passed away suddenly and peacefully at ther home in this city Saturday May 18th, and leaves behind a mother, husband, and infant daughter. She seemed to know that she would soon pass to that better land, and only a few days before her death she wrote a letter to be given to her babe when it should have attained the age of 16 years--also a short poem--neither were found until after her death. The sentiment of the poem so fittingly expresses the purity and courage of her own young life that it is a fitting close for this sad record: Have courage to do right-- No courage is like this; It proves a sword of might, A goodly shield it is. The host of sin if helps to slay. Have courage, child, to brave to-day. Have courage to do right, My boy, the word's for you-- Treat not my counsel light. ' Twill help to bear you through ' Twill help you put on Satan down, ' Twill help you win the victor's crown. Have courage to do right, My girl, the word's for you Now while the morn is bright. Now in your youth's first dawn, Be brave today, be brave and strong ' Gainst all the hosts of sin and wrong. Have courage to do right. Though fierce and strong the foe. The Lord of grace and might Will help to lay him low; Treat not my counsel vain or light. =================================================== Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Archive Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) and by the KSGenWeb USGenWeb Archive Project USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
