Obituary of O'NEAL, Arlie Lee Jefferson County, KS 1914 The Valley Falls New Era, Jefferson County, Kansas, September 3, 1914 Arlie Lee O'NEAL was born October 9th, 1900, at Easton, Kansas, and died at Dunavant, Thursday, August 27th, 1914, aged 13 years, 10 months, and 18 days. Arlie was the only son and eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Emery O'NEAL. He was an exceptionally bright boy and one who was loved by all who knew him. Always had a pleasant smile for all he chanced to meet. He was greatly interested in his school work, music and especially his Sunday school. His illness was very short, being stricken while visiting his uncle, Albert O'NEAL at Denison last Sunday evening. He had been troubled with hernia for several years but nothing serious until last Sunday evening he took with vomiting and returned home Monday morning. Dr. STERRETT was called on Tuesday, and Wednesday four other physicians viz: Drs. McCREIGHT of Oskaloosa, MANN of Valley Falls, DARLINGTON of Denison and REYNOLDS of Holton; but all too late as the dread disease pertontitis had set in and an operation useless. Everything that loving hand and a kind physician and nurse could do were done to make the end of the short, beautiful life as easy as possible. The funeral was held at the church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, where a house full of friends gathered to pay their respects. Rev. KOSER preached the sermon after which the body was taken by auto to Easton for burial. Seven other cars carried the grief stricken parents and uncles and aunts. The grandparents being! unable to take so long a trip. Arlie was the constant chum of his father and pride of his mother and little sister, Gladys, who will always mourn his untimely loss. Mr. and Mrs. O'NEAL have a host of friends who do sympathize with them in this their first real sorrow. But what is our loss is Heaven's gain. Card of Thanks. We wish to thank the many friends who so kindly assisted us in our time of great need and for the lovely flowers, those who sang and for the automobiles used in laying our darling boy away.
