RANKIN, jr., was born at Parkersburg, West Virginia, Dec. 15th, 1862, died at McLouth, Kansas, Jan. 28th, 1909. He moved with the family from West Virginia to Seneca County, Ohio, Nov. 10, 1864; from there they moved to Mexico, Mo., March 1st, 1873; from that place to Valley Falls, Kansas, Nov. 15th, 1873, moving to Ottawa, Kansas, in 1883, where he and his brother, Dr. E.C. Rankin, engaged in the drug business. He came to McLouth, Feb. 1st, 1885, where he has since resided with the exception of one year which he spent at Kingsley and Larned. He was married to Miss Olive LLOYD, July 27, 1885. His wife, one daughter, Maude, two sons, Lloyd and Marcus and his mother, one brother, and two sisters survive to mourn his loss. WHile living at Kingsley, Mr. Rankin joined the Presbyterian church. Through faith and good works he conquered in life's battles. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Royal Arch Mason and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Also a member of the Modern Woodman of America, and a member of the Pharmaceutical Association. With the exception of six months he has served as City Clerk since McLouth was incorporated. He served 5 terms on the school board. He served as secretary of the United Brethren Sunday School for 14 consecutive years and was always at his place and was greatly appreciated. "What is death to him who meets it with an upright heart? A quiet haven, where his shattered bark harbors secure till the rough storm is passed, perhaps a passage overhung with clouds, but at its entrance a few leagues beyond, opening to kinder skies and milder suns and seas pacific as the soul that seeks them." Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church, Sunday, Jan. 31st, at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. E. E. McAferty assisted by Rev. G.D. Kuns and Rev. G.F. Sanders. Interment was in the McLouth cemetery. M. Card of Thanks. To the many friends who so kindly gave their services during the affliction caused by the dath of our loved one, Charles M. Rankin, and to the many more who so kindly tendered their sympathy, to Rev. McAferty and the assisting ministers, to the choir, to the Masons, Woodmen and Eastern Star, to those who had charge of the funeral services, to the entire community as well as visiting friends and for the many tributes of respect expressed in God's emblems of purity, the beautiful flowers, we tender our heartfelt thanks.
