The Oskaloosa Independent, Jefferson County, Saturday, September 7, 1878
A gentleman, whose name I have not learned, living some three miles north west
of town accidentally shot himself through the arm one day last week, a scab
former over the wound, after the flow of blood was checked. On Saturday morning
he was found dead in his bed, and upon examination it was discovered that the
scab had been rubbed off and that the man died from loss of blood, presumably
whilst sleeping.(Grantville.)
