Dolph Watson and Harry Martin The Victims. McLouth Boys In Ford Crash, a Chevrolet North of McLouth Saturday Night. Two youths, each seventeen years old, are dead, and another is recovering from injuries, all the result of a tragic motor car collision last Saturday night north of McLouth. Robert Dolph WATSON, youngest son of Mrs. Robt. Watson, and Harry MARTIN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Martin, both of McLouth, were victims of the wreck, while Homer JEFFERS, son of Dan Jeffers, of east of McLouth, was injured. The accident occurred two miles north of McLouth on the Edmonds Chapel road, where a narrow bridge prevents the passing of two cars at once. The Ford roadster, in which the three boys were riding, crashed into a Chevrolet sedan, driven by Corporal W.H. REINEY of Ft. Leavenworth, and also occupied by Mrs. Reiney, their daughter, Nancy, and George FITTENGER, employe of the Leavenworth Motor Co. The Reiney car neared the bridge at about 9 o'clock, its occupants enjoying an evening's motor ride. According to the statement made by Corporal Reiney, the Ford Roadster swept over the brow of the opposite hill and approached the bridge at a fast rate of speed. All efforts to stop the Ford were unavailing, Reiney said, and Eittenger corborated his statement, and described to Sheriff C.H. AULL and Cornoer D.M. STEVENS, who had been called to the scene, how the Ford car crashed into their Chevrolet, and bounded over fifty feet away from the bridge into the ditch, turning over twice. Harry Martin sustained a fractured skull and Dolph Watson a broken neck, while Homer Jeffers was injured. Watson died while on the way to McLouth, and Martin soon after reaching the doctor's office. Reiney and his party were not held after an investigation by Sheriff Aull, who was convinced that the accident was unavoidable. None in the Chevrolet was injured, and the corporal after repairing slight damages to his car and replacing a wheel, left for Leavenworth at about midnight. Funeral services for Dolph Watson were held Tuesday afternoon, July 8, at the home, conducted by Rev. Arthur Ward. Interment was in Fall Creek cemetery. Services for Harry Martin were held Wednesday afternoon, July 9, at the McLouth Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C.L. R?????. Burial was in McLouth cemetery. Large crowds of sympathetic friends and neighbors gathered to pay last respects to the unfortunate youths, and to console the bereaved families, who are suffering from the shock of the tragedy which affected the entire community. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/jefferson/obits/w/watson605gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb
