Joseph Miner WILEY, son of Charles and Phoebe Wiley, wa sborn near Clarkville, Clinton County, Ohio, Jan. 11, 1848, and died at his home near Ozawkie, Kan., July 2, 1930, in his 83rd year. He came with his parents to Stewardsville, Mo., in 1851, and one to Kansas in 1861, settling on the old homestead two and one-half miles north of Oskaloosa, but moving to his farm near Ozawkie fifty years ago. He was married to Martha Catherine GRAY, Dec. 21, 1876, and most of their married life was spent on the home farm, where, as a fine Christian neighbor and friend, we hope Mrs. Wiley will continue to live. They had no children, but out of the kindness of their hearts, raised four orphan boys. The home of Mr. Wiley has been a Christian home a long time. Mrs. Wiley joined the United Brethren church in 1893, under the pastoriate of Rev. S.C. COBLENTZ, and Mr. Wiley joined in 1897 under the pastorate of Rev. J.L. THOMPSON, making the Lord a present of himself to start the New Year right and he kept at it for fifty years. He was active in polictics several years, was Deputy Sheriff of Jefferson County in 1874-75. Township Treasurer several years, and member of the Hays School Board seventeen years. "Uncle Joe" as he was familiarily called, was a man of strong convictions, and kindly disposition who numbered his friends by his acquaintances. Almost the last act of his life was a good deed for a poor woman. In his passing the community has lost a valuable companion, and relatives a kind advisor. Besides his wife, he leaves a number of nephews and nieces to mourn his death, and a multitude of friends to grieve with them. We shall meet in that blessed harbor, When the storms of life are o'er. We shall meet and cast the anchor By that fair celestial shore. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/jefferson/obits/w/wiley754gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
