Cartwell Dead. A Cousin of Joe H. and Jno. H. Cartmell, of this city, Passed Away at Savannah, Mo. Monday afternoon news was received by relatives here of the sudden death of John M. CARTMELL, at Savannah, Mo., and Thos. Cartmell left immediately for that place to take charge of the remains. John J. Cartmell was born in Champaigne county, Ohio in 1833. Seventeen years ago he came west in the interest of the Buckeye Manufacturing Co. For the past nine years he has been connected with the Dickey Manufacturing Co. of Kansas City. The deceased was troubled a great deal from asthma and it was a throat trouble that caused his death. That death came very unexpectedly is shown by the fact that on Sunday he wrote to his wife from Savannah saying that, while he had a bad cold he felt greatly improved and was almost well. Following the cheerful letter came death's message to tear away the bright hopes of the wife and leave her to gradually realize the great loss. Mr. and Mrs. Cartmell were residents of Kansas City, Mo., but on account of him having to be away from home a great deal this winter his wife had been making her home in LaCygne. She has made many warm friends here who share her grief as much as is possible for friends to do and our people extend their sympathy in her sorrowful loss. The remains arrived Tuesday evening, accompanied by the widow of the deceased and Thos. Cartmell of this place. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Whitehead of the M.E. church at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Joe H. Cartmell after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the beautiful Oak Lawn cemetery. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/linn/obits/c/cartmell321ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
