CHETLAIN.--The sad news was received here of the death of Mr. C.E. Chetlain, which occurred at Denver, Col., on the 14th inst. This news, though not unexpected, nevertheless saddens many hearts here, where he was so well known and universally respected, and beloved. Mr. C. was born in Galena, Ill., where he lived until early manhood, but of late years had been a resident of Arkansas and Memphis, Tenn., where he was extensively engaged in the mercantile business. A little less that a year ago he became a resident of LaCygne, and was its pioneer merchant, having built the first store ever constructed and occupied in the village. But consumption had marked him for its victim, and this spring he relinquished his business and went to the mountains in the vain hope of recovering his shattered health. He had been here but a short time, when he became aware that all eartly hopes were delusive and on the 14th calmly and peacefully sank into his eternal sleep. Mrs. C. was with him to cheer and sustain him in his last moments. His remains were sent to Galena, Ill., for interment. His aged was about thirty-five. He was an upright and honest man, pleasant and courteous in his dealings with his fellow men, and his death leaves a void that will long be felt. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/linn/obits/c/chetlain351ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
