"Another man who has been a prominent character in building Kansas has been 
called away.  At the ripe age of 79 yrs. Frederick Dedo was claimed by the 
angel of death at his home last Sunday. 
Frederick Dedo was born in Machlenburg, Swerene, Germany on April 15, 1825.  He 
was married to Mary Louise Prane in 1850 who preceded him to that other world.
With his bride he immigrated to America in 1852 and settled in New Orleans, 
later residing in Fort Smith, Arkansas and also for a time lived in Missouri.  
In 1859 he located in Kansas on Sugar Creek in Linn County.  He enlisted in the 
Union army in 1861 and served his country faithfully for over three years.  
After being discharged from the service he returned home to Kansas where he 
lived until death.  His second marriage which was to Mrs. Kate Shaw occurred in 
1888 and his widow survives him.  He was the father of eight children six of 
whom are living.  They are H.M. Dedo, Chas. Dedo, Bettie Hunt, Augusta Cook, 
Christian White and F.E.Dedo.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 12 o'clock from the home of the 
deceased and interment took place in No. 96 Cemetery.  The services were 
conducted by Rev. Britton of Amsterdam.
While Mr. Dedo lived to an old age yet his last years were ladened with useful 
and generous acts. Throughout his life he was a stern, honest, trustworthy 
gentleman and his acts were always just to all.  The sorrowing relatives have 
the community's sympathy in their bereavement."
