HAIRGROVE, formerly a resident of Valley Township in this county, died at his residence in Osage County on Wednesday of last week. Mr. H. was a native of Georgia, and seventy-two years of age at the time of his death. He was one of the few survivors of the infamous John Hamilton massacre in Valley Township near the Missouri State line, on the 19th day of May, 1858, at which time eleven peaceful and quiet men were taken prisoners, mercilessly shot down, and most of them killed. Mr. H. was wounded in three places, and for awhile it was thought he would not survive, but a strong constitution and careful nursing brought him through. He was always a staunch and true Republican, and much respected by all who knew him. To the old citizens of Valley Township the news of this death will bring sorrow and cause a tear to drop to the memory of the man who was one of the old John Brown's staunchest friends, and ever a warm supporter of the principles of right and justice. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/linn/obits/h/hairgrov315ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
