HUNTER.--At his residence in this place on Friday night, February 17th, 1871, Dr. Frank W. HUNTER, in the 34th year of his age. Dr. Hunter was born in Sangamon county, Illinois, in the month of May 1837; studied and afterwards practiced medicine in his native state. In 1862 he was commissioned by Gov. Yates, Assistant Surgeon of the Eighty-fourth Regiment of Illinois Infantry, and was with Gen. Thomas' Corpse in the memorable battles of Stone River, Chicamauga and Atlanta. At the battle of Chicamauga he was on the field, in the rain, without shelter, where he contracted a severe cold, which resulted in the consumption and ultimately in his death. Thus Dr. Hunter sacrificed his life in defense of the Old Flag and for the cause of Human Rights. Returning from the army at the close of the war, with enfeeble health, Dr. Huner spent his remaining years in traveling to different localities to recuperate and if possible in his capacity of physician, extend his usefulness to the human family. In the month of October, 1870, he arrived in our town, and at once, by his afflable manners and courteous deportment, ingratiated himself into the good graces of our citizens, but the Fell Destroyer had marked him for his victim, and we had not long to enjoy his society and his usefulness. Dr. Hunter leaves a wife and two children to mourn their loss; and we believe they have the heart-felt sympathy of the community in this time of their bereavement.
