JONES was born in Morgan county, Ill., March 23, 1817; died at his home near New Lancaster, Miami county, Kansas, January 4th, '98, aged 80 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was married December 21, 1843 to Miss Almira Jane JACKSON to whom were born thirteen children, eight sons and five daughters. There still survive him, his aged wife, five sons and two daughters. Mr. Jones, with his wife, was converted to the Lord after which Brother Skelton RENFROW baptised them in September, 1852, and they both joined the Baptist church. Some years since they moved to their present home and became members of the New Lancaster Baptist church, where he lived a consistent Christian until death. The funeral was conducted by the writer on the 6th. Mrs. Jones, having been afflicted with rheumatism, was unable to follow the body to its resting place. Prayer was offered at the home before leaving. The sermon was preached in the Union church at New Lancaster in the presence of a large audience, after which the remains were laid to rest in the New Lancaster cemetery. Father Jones was highly esteemed as a neighbor and citizen and faithful as a follower of the Lord Jesus. He said he was willing to go and spoke of soon seeing his children who were gone before.
