William Miller, One of our Oldest and Best Citizens Passes Away. At the age of 78, "Uncle" Billy MILLER, as the subject of this sketch was familiarly known, died at his home east of LaCygne on March 13th, after a painful illness of two weeks. William Miller was born in Kentucky September 8, 1827. He moved to Illinois with his parents when three years of age, thence to Missouri at eight years old and from there to Texas, back to Missouri and finally to Kansas in 1856 where he has since resided. On December 6, 1849, he was married to Miss M.J. HUGO and to this union eleven children were born--nine sons and two daughters. Three boys and two girls are dead. The six living children were all present at the time of this death. Fourteen descendants of this old gentleman are proud to call him grandpa. William Miller professed religion at the Chamberlain school house and joined the Baptist church. He was baptised by Elder Simons. The church at that place disbanded and he and wife joined at West Point where he held his membership and was a faithful worker until death. This grand old man lived here in the early days before the civil war, saw the hardships that existed on the border, and was ever found assisting to make a hig her civilization and a better country. The early settlers were more thorougly acquainted with William Miller and they speak of him as one of the builders of our great country. He died as he lived--a Christian man. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/linn/obits/m/miller339ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
