G.W. PLATT died at his home in Paris township, Friday, August 18th, 1899 of
cancer of the stomach at the age of 48 years, 3 months and 14 days. Mr. Platt
was born in Hollow county, Indiana June 14, 1851, came to Kansas October 25,
1868. He was married to Miss Jennie DEARDORF on December 25, 1872. Two
daughters, one son, aged aged mother, four sisters and two brothers are left to
mourn the departed one. He moved to his present home November 10, 1884 and has
been a great worker for the good of the community in which he resided ever since.
Mr. Platt joined the church at an early age and lived a Christian up to death.
He was a great sufferer for eleven months but he never was heard to murmur. All
was done to save him that loving hands could do but earthly aid was of no avial
and he passed peacefully to the great beyond surrounded by loving relatives and
friends. He was a good man strictly honest in all his dealings with his fellow
man, and our community feels deeply the loss. Funeral services were conducted
from his late residence by Rev. C.P. Huffman and he was laid to rest in the
Walnut Grove cemetery on Saturday, August 19th.
