The saddest news the Journal has had to publish for a long time is the
intelligence of the death of Elton SMITH, son of Hon. Ed. R. Smith, of Mound
City, who died Sunday night from the effect of the accident received September
19, while riding a horse considered perfectly trusty. Elton was a boy of great
promise and the bereavement of his parents is also the sorrow of a very large
circle of friends.
