Thursday night of last week the spirit of Louis WHITTAKER left its eartly home for that one in the great beyond. For a long time he had been in poor health and consumption slowly but quite surely claimed him as a victim. Louis Whittaker was born near Versailles, Ripley county, Indiana on March 7, 1835(?). Here he lived until the civil war was declared when he took arms with the Union and served his country for three years. After the war he returned to Indiana and for several years he worked at the cabinet trade. In 1877 he removed to Paola, Kansas where he engaged in the furniture and undertaking business. In 1890 his health began to fail and he was forced to retire from active business. On the 24th of April , 1891, his wife was taken from him by death and since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. L.C. FICKES of LaCygne. He had been ailling several months but was confined to his room only a short time before his death. On Friday afternoon the remains were sent to Paola where funeral services were conducted at the Christian church on Saturday, and interment took place in Oak Grove cemetery alongside of the wife who preceded him. Mr. Whittaker was well known here although he was a man who talked but very little. He was never one to tell of the good deeds that he had done yet they were many. His life was an exemplary one and no one could truthfully say ought against him. To Mr. and Mrs. Fickes our people extend their deepest sympathy. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/linn/obits/w/whittake1205gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
