Last Saturday afternoon Roy, twelve-year old son, of Alfred WORTMAN and wife, mounted a horse to go to a neighbors on an errand and as he was crossing a bridge the horse stepped in a hole and fell, alighting with great force upon his young rider, resulting in a compound comminution of the left leg. The bone was crused into a pulp, and the foot was suspended only by the skin. The young hero, notwithsanding the excruciating pain he must have been in, hobbled about until he caught his horse, sticking the bone of his horribly mangled foot into the ground each step. After catching the horse he mounted and started for home. After going some distance he met some of the neighbors in a buggy who took him in their rig and hurried home with him. Dr. Rees was sent for and did all that was possible for the sufferer, but he was so weak from loss of blood, and this connected with the fact that blood poison set it, proved too much and after three days of intense suffering the spirit took it! s flight to the great beyond, on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral services were held Wednesday and the body laid to rest in Eureka cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Wortman certainly have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire populace in this sad and sudden taking of their beloved child.
