Stetter TimeTraveler303@aol.com August 17, 2007, 12:35 am The Oakley GRAPHIC, Oakley, Logan County, Kansas January 3, 1890 "DISTRICT NO. 35" Winter has begun in earnest. Visiting schools seems to be the rage. Thomas POOL was calling in this vicinity Monday. Rob ROSEBERRY is home from Nebraska and holding down his claim. C. C. GILMORE, our new register of deeds, moved to the county seat Tuesday. So they go. What is our loss is Russell Springs' gain. The people in this vicinity took an unusual part in the Christmas festivities. First, the Sunday school entertainment given Christmas eve was carried out nicely. The little folks did their parts well considering the short time. The house was well filled. Then the dinner given by the STANLEY brothers was enjoyed by all. There were about 75 present. It seemed like old times to have a neighborhood gathering. The young people went from there to D. L. McCOMBS', where the evening was spent in social conversation and dancing. All enjoyed themselves and long will the young people remember the Christmas of 1889, especially the dinners. We sincerely hope the STANLEY boys may live long and enjoy many more such occasions. -- DESS Additional Comments: Source: The Oakley GRAPHIC, Oakley, Logan County, Kansas; Friday, January 3, 1890, Volume 1 Number 7.
