There are several names shown in this collection of notices issued from the WakKeeney, Kansas, land office during the fall 1889. Intent(s) to Prove Claims and Complaints for Timber Culture Claims in 1889: Notice for Publication – 5031 Land office at WaKeeney, Kansas, October 12th, 1889. Notice is hereby given that the following ?amed settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his claim ?nd that said proof will be made before Clerk of District Court of Thomas county at Colby, Kansas, November 23, 188, viz: Isaac D. SHORTS, H. E., No. 20,198, for the s. e. 1/4 sec. 12, t. 10, s. of r. 33 w. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of said land, viz: John BURNS of Oakley, Kansas; Harry HUNTSBARGER of Oakley, Kansas; I. Chas. MORRIS of Oakley, Kansas; L. GREEN of Oakley, Kansas. --W. C. L. BEARD, Register Land office at WaKeeny (sic), Kansas, October 26th 1889, Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intentention (sic) to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will be made before the Register and Receiver of the U. S. Land Office at WaKeeny (sic) Kansas, on Dec, 14, 1889, viz: George E. WOOKEY, Declaratory statement No. 14788, for the N. E. 1/4 of section 6 township 41 range 81 w. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence and cultivation of said land, viz, James DILLON, W. J. DAVENPORT, Wm. W. GEORGE and ?, Charles MORRIS all of Oakley, Kansas, --W. C. L. BEARD, Register NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION. – 4916. Land Office at Wakeeney, Kansas, September 14, 1889. Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will be made before the Clerk of the District court of Thomas Co. Kansas, at Colby Kansas, on October 30th 1889, viz: Thomas B. POWERS, Declaratory Statement No. 14765 for the S. W. 1/4 section 34 town 10 s range 31 west. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon and cultivation of said land, viz; William W. GEORGE, Sterling P. POTTER, Ale. LITZENBERG and James A. DILLON, all of Oakley Kansas. --W. C. L. BEARD, Register NOTICE—TIMBER CULTURE, No. 11614. U. S. Land Office, WaKeeney, Kansas, Sept 17th 1889. Complaint having been entered at this Office by Morris LISTER against Warren P. TURNER for failure to comply with law as to Timber Culture Entry No. 18113 dated Augt. 28, 1888 upon the North East 1/4 Section 22, Township 13, south of Range 32 w, in Logan County TURNER has failed to break, plow or cultivate or cause to be broken, plowed or cultivated five acres or any portion of said tract during or since first year of entry and such failure still exist: the said parties are hereby summoned to appear at this office on the 7th day of November 1889, at 9 o’clock A. M. to respond and furnish testimony concerning said alledge (sic) failure ?____? --Jno. SCHLYER, Receiver. NOTICE—TIMBER CULTURE No. 11399 U. S. Land Office WaKeeney Kansas, Sept, 18th 1889. Complaint having been entered at this Office by Fred H. MATHER against Merto? J. KEYS for failure to comply with law as to Timber Culture Entry No. 8626, dated February 12, 1885, upon the North East 1/4 Section 2, Township 14 south of Range 32 w in Logan County Kansas with a view to the cancellation of said entry; contestant alleging that the said Merton J. KEYS has wholly failed to break, plow or stir five acres of said tract at any time within the last twenty-two months nor any part thereof nor has he caused the same to be done and that said failure exists at the present time; the said parties are hereby summoned to appear at this Office on the 13th day of November 1889 at 9 o’clock A. M., to respond and furnish testimony concerning said alleged failure. --John SCHLYER Receiver.
